Alberto Cantizani López
Antropólogo Médico – Medical Anthropologist
Alberto Cantizani López has a masters degree in Medical Anthropology and Sociology from the University of Amsterdam. He developed his interest in Science and Technology Studies (STS) and Anthropology during his undergraduate studies at the University of Freiburg with a dissertation on the ontological politics of the psychedelic renaissance. He has recently completed his master dissertation with an ethnographic study of the ongoing clinical trials of psilocybin for the treatment of depression. This project focuses on the clinical and research practices through which psychedelic mushrooms and the field of psychiatry transform each other in the process of medicalization. More generally, his research interests include the anthropology of mental health and drug use, the politics of knowledge production and the decolonization of science. He has also collaborated with several psychedelic research organizations such as OPEN Foundation.
